RANKS AND THEIR MEANING:
Alpha Male: In charge of the whole pack and makes important decisions such as pack hunts and raids on other packs.
Alpha Female: Adviser of the alpha male and often helps out with the important decisions. Is mate to the alpha male and will retire once the alpha male dies or also retires.
Beta Male: Basically a deputy, who, when the alpha male dies, will take his place. Sends out small hunting patrols and trains the delta male.
Beta Female: Seconds deputy who works alongside the beta male. Isn't necessarily his mate, but will become so when he becomes alpha male.
Delta Male: In training to be Beta male. Is often in charge of hunting and border patrols.
Delta Female: In training to be Beta female. Raises to the next rank along with the delta male. She is also often in charge of hunting and border patrols.
Sentinels: These wolves are most commonly sent to inspect the borders and confront any strange wolves that have crossed into their territory.
Hunters: They obviously hunt for the pack, but can also be accompanied by warriors to help bring down large prey. They are often relatively lithe and fast.
Scouts: These wolves are sent as messengers to other packs, and scout out any prey nearby for the hunters to catch. When off-duty, they train with the warriors and hunt with the hunters.
Warriors: These wolves are the main fighting force. They are very strong and are often sent with sentinels on border patrols, or guard and help the hunters when they are on patrol.
Shamans(healers): These wolves are rather gentle and know everything there is to know about herbs, whether they be poisonous or helpful. They are very respected in the pack and are big assets, especially in a war.
Apprentices: These are young wolves who have not yet become full members of the pack. They choose a wolf of their choice to become their mentor, who will teach them about their job. Once experienced and old enough, they are welcomed as fully-fledged members of the pack.
Elders: These wolves cannot do their job anymore and attend to the pups of the pack. The alphas often visit them for advise, especially if the elder in particular happens to be a retired leader.
Pups: The pups are the heart of the pack and are cared for by their mothers and the elders until they are old enough to do a job of their choice, which is around 1 year old (see apprentices).
Omegas: These guys are the bottom of the bottom. They are often murdurers, prisoners from a war. They can sometimes be considered 'slaves'. If they prove their worth, the alpha will sometimes redeem them and let them become full members of the pack again, or let them return to their original pack depending on why they were Omegas.
